CIRCADIAN PHASE RELATION OF SEROTONIN AND DOPAMINE INFLUENCES REPRODUCTIVE CONDITIONS IN DOMESTIC PIGEON, Columba livia domestica

چکیده
The aim of the present study was to learn whether circadian phase relationship of serotonin and dopamine can influence reproductive conditions in monogamous bird domestic pigeon . Mature birds were divided into two groups. Group I received daily injections/day of normal saline served as controls. A bird in another experimental group was injected daily with 5-HTP(5-Hydroxytryptophan) and L-DOPA(L-Dihydroxyphenylalanine) at 8-hour relationships. These doses were administered for 13 days at a dose of 5 mg /100gm bw. Observations were made 24 hour after last injection. Gravimetry of gonads, crop gland weight and hormonal estimation were recorded. Results indicate that 8hr. relationship showed stimulatory effects.. The present study yields experimental evidences that circadian phase relationships of serotonergic and dopaminergic activities in the brain do alter physiological conditions which in turn affects the seasonality of domestic pigeon.

Role of dopamine in the modulation of adrenal gland responses in the osmotically stressed pigeons, Columba livia.
Salt loading on pigeons (C. livia) had stimulatory effects on brain amines (dopamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine), corticosterone, norepinephrine and epinephrine contents of adrenal gland. Conjoint administration of dopamine with hypertonic saline restored the brain amines and corticosterone of adrenal gland, but had no effect on catecholamine (CAM) contents of adrenal medulla. The excessive releas...

Seasonal changes in reproduction and other metabolic conditions may result from interaction of circadian neural oscillations and hormonal secretion that change seasonally. To test this hypothesis, the present study was designed to study the effect of melatonin and circadian neurotransmitter activity on reproductive and hormonal conditions in a subtropical finch, spotted munia (Lonchura punctula...
متن کاملFunctional aspects of dopamine metabolism in the putative prefrontal cortex analogue and striatum of pigeons (Columba livia).
Dopamine (DA) in mammalian associative structures, such as the prefrontal cortex (PFC), plays a prominent role in learning and memory processes, and its homeostasis differs from that of DA in the striatum, a sensorimotor region. The neostriatum caudolaterale (NCL) of birds resembles the mammalian PFC according to connectional, electrophysiological, and behavioral data. In the present study, DA ...
متن کاملCocaine Modulates Pathways for Photic and Non-photic Entrainment of the Mammalian Circadian Clock
Cocaine abuse is highly disruptive to circadian physiological and behavioral rhythms. The present study was undertaken to determine if such effects are manifest through actions on critical photic and non-photic regulatory pathways in the master circadian clock of the mouse suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). Impairment of SCN photic signaling by systemic (i.p.) cocaine injection was evidenced by str...
